This definitely takes a bit of getting used to when you move here. Sure we have our standard 10% tip at a restaurant, but tipping is very different here. It's all linked to how staff are paid (another discussion altogether!) so it's pretty important.
Another difference is that tax is not usually included in the initial price that you see. Tax will be added at the checkout, where you will also be asked to tip. We usually default to a 15% tip and work up from there if the service deserves it.
